Steve Gilliard 1966-2007

The black blogging community lost a founding member today when the death of Steve Gillard was announced this evening. Words won’t properly express the sadness of this blogger for the loss of the News blog. His passionate defense of truth and progressive values set him apart as a blogger of heft and of heart. His passing is a tremendous loss for us and I extend my profound condolences to his family and to all those who knew and loved him.

I didn’t know who he was until a few weeks ago, when I saw on another blog that he was sick. I went to his blog and read some of his archives, and they were truly some fearless work.

    RIP, Mr. Gilliard.

My prayers are with his family.

  2. I had his page bookmarked since the 2004 elections. If you get a chance go back and read his articles in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Some of the best stuff ever written online, and testament as to why the mainstream media is useless.

  3. rikyrah, Ernesto,

He was absolutely the best. The biggest bloggers in the business are singing his praises and the tributes to his skill, tenacity, and passion are pouring in from everywhere. He will be deeply missed.

All of this has happened so suddenly.

He was one of the best. His analysis of the strategic situation in Iraq and his perspectives on military history were thorough and compelling.

He was one of the first bloggers I read daily.

    I will truly miss him.
