Election Day

Standard

Today is Election Day, Children.   The ladies of California’s  37th Congressional District-Laura Richardson, Jenny Oropeza, and Valerie McDonald face off against each other to see who will win the Democratic Primary and subsequently, this seat.   Laura Richardson’s labor allies are involved in serious and well-funded member to member election contact on her behalf and the Indian Tribes are funding Oropeza’s voter contact program.   Tonight we’ll see who’s been most effective.

Another wrinkle has been added in this race by the sharp elbow Richardson gave Oropeza for taking off and missing votes during her liver cancer treatment.   Most folk think that was a low blow and yet another foot inserted into the mouth of the leading African American candidate in this race.

I will be pulling a late night tonight to blog as this race develops.

  1. Wrap up this race, SB and hand the seat to Oropeza. If African-Americans are too ignorant to watch their mouths on issues like an opposing candidate’s health, they don’t need to be in DC representing us.

We have more than enough morons in the Congressional Black Caucus.

An opponent’s health is OFF LIMITS. Remember when Mel Carnahan died during his campaign against then Senator John Ashcroft? John Ashcroft couldn’t say a damned thing about Carnahan – he was dead.

Which is why Carnahan beat Ashcroft, post-mortum.

Speaking ill of the opponent who had legit reasons for missing some votes in the legislature (liver cancer, for God’s sake) is all the reason I need not to vote for that person. They have shown their ethics and their values and all of it adds up to manure.

  2. political junkie,

I would have to second that emotion about having more than enough morons in the Congressional Black Caucus-they’re so stupid that Tavis is holding their debate and they don’t even know it. Without brotha Tavis, I don’t know where we’d be.

Comments from a voter in the district (via mydd):

BTW, early voting had been quite light at my precinct when I went to vote around noon, as you might expect. GOTV looks to be very important. If Richardson makes it, she will owe labor, big time.

  5. SB:

I will be attending Tavis’ debate tomorrow night and I’ll let you know how many CBC members will be in attendance. If any of them show, that is.

I expect Maxine and Barbara to be there – Tavis has those sistas back!
