Senate subpeona’s Karl Rove

Hat tip: by Klaus Marre, the Hill

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Thursday issued a subpoena for top White House adviser Karl Rove to compel him to testify about the firing of several U.S. attorneys.

“The evidence shows that senior White House political operatives were focused on the political impact of federal prosecutions and whether federal prosecutors were doing enough to bring partisan voter fraud and corruption cases,” Leahy said. “It is obvious that the reasons given for the firings of these prosecutors were contrived as part of a cover-up and that the stonewalling by the White House is part and parcel of that same effort.”

Leahy issued the subpoenas, one to Rove and one to White House aide Scott Jennings, after consulting with Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), the committee’s ranking member.

“The Bush-Cheney White House continues to place great strains on our constitutional system of checks and balances,” Leahy added. “Not since the darkest days of the Nixon administration have we seen efforts to corrupt federal law enforcement for partisan political gain and such efforts to avoid accountability.”

The move is a further escalation of the constitutional battle between Congress and the White House over whether Bush administration officials must provide testimony and documents to legislative branch investigators.

Leahy said he is not taking this step lightly and only decided to proceed after “[exhausting] every avenue seeking the voluntary cooperation of Karl Rove and J. Scott Jennings.”

The Judiciary Committee chairman concluded that the investigation has “reached a point where the accumulated evidence shows that political considerations factored into the unprecedented firing of at least nine United States attorneys last year.”

In a letter to Rove, Leahy gives the White House official a week to appear before the panel and testify under oath.

“I hope that the White House takes this opportunity to reconsider its blanket claim of executive privilege, especially in light of the testimony that the President was not involved in the dismissals of these U.S. Attorneys,” Leahy said in his letter. “I am left to ask what the White House is so intent on hiding that it cannot even identify the documents, the dates, the authors and recipients that they claim are privileged.”

    OT:

Put on the tin foil hat and answer this question:

Why is O’Reilley(White Citizens Council Network) going after DailyKos so soon after ‘questions’ about the Head Kos have been asked?

He proposes to a White girl in IDAHO and thought folks were gonna be ok with it?

They aren’t ok with it anywhere, but IDAHO.

Welcome to the real world, my young Brother.

  3. I’m waiting for Rove’s “Cheney” moment when he tells Leahy (again) to go eff himself, just like Darth Cheney himself did.

As for Markos, Francis has the book on that guy. O’Reilly’s upset because he knows, whether you agree with Francis or not, that Kos has a lot of influence and could get enough people to turn on O’Reilly, his show and the shows’ sponsors, a la Don Imus.

O’Reilly fired up John Aravosis over on Americablog, and John’s put up all the blog posts from O’Reilly’s blog – everything from inciting violence and suggesting blowing up Capitol Hill (with all 535 Congressional Members inside) to killing the Borg Queen: http://www.americablog.com.

You might not like the Borg Queen, but even I draw the line at posting something that suggests violent action be taken against a political official.

O’Reilly says he can’t control who posts what on his blog. If you charge a $50 credit card fee to whomever signs on that site as a blogger, you get to not only control and ban them, you can play PO-PO with their ass. So, as usual, he’s lying.

And as for the brotha in Idaho getting married to a white chick, he should not be acting surprised that the threats he’s getting are coming from within a state that has less than 1% African-American population, and the KKK bastion in Coeur d’Alene. Yes, they cheered his ability to play football, but mixing with one of their womenfolk?

He’d do well to import some of the NOI brothers if he wants to get out of Boise alive. And his woman needs to go, too, because as far as the KKK are concerned, she’s a “nigger lover” now, and totally ruined for any other white guy who would be interested.

If they don’t have the testicular fortitude that Mildred and Richard Loving had when they went to the Supreme Court 40 years ago to declare their interracial marriage was constitutional, they better leave for more friendlier climates (i. e. Seattle, where at 25% of married couples are interracial and no big deal).

Is that why the Secret Service was looking into O’Reilly’s site? And, if he charges loot, then he should be in control.

One thing that really stands out in my mind is him being indirectly tied to the exposure of their “CIA Operative”. One would have to be a natural idiot or still blind deaf and dumb to think that in 2007 they have deviated from their number one aim to destroy the black man and woman. Their CIA Operatives are some of their smartest soldiers in their army of white supremacists/neo-conservatives who apply covert operations to attack, disable, divide radical Black, Hispanic, Arab organizations all over the world. They are body of scholarly individuals who have mastered the art using surreptitious suggestion to incite warfare between their enemies, therefore they never have to come out and fight their enemies themselves. They hate to be exposed, and they prefer to be in the background instilling deception in weak individual’s heads to cause enmity, hatred, divisiveness, jealousy within organizations and religions. They have successfully engineered the Black/Black, Black/Hispanic wars in Los Angeles County, continued success over a thirty year period. If they are so outraged that a white female operative was exposed, imagine how they would feel if the black operatives within black organizations are exposed.
