Colin Powell, undecided voter

Standard

Former Generalissimo and Secretary of State Colin Powell told a George Washington University audience that he is undecided in this year’s presidential contest and is still weighing his options.   The idea of a black president, according to Powell, would be, “electrifying…but at the same time [I have to] make a judgement here on which would be best for America.”

Powell’s statement lays bare the delicious contradiction implicit in departing from the Republican Party.  Caught between racial pride and a lifetime of devoted service as the white power structure’s militaristic enforcer and their prestigeous blackface foreign minstrel, he cannot support Barack Obama without calling into question everything he has been about for the last 35 years.

In the end, the imperial crusade he helped to launch in Iraq with erroneous intelligence and blatant falsehoods and the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Hati, will be his legacy.   He needs to own that failure.

Colin Powell Lied, 100,000 Died - Demonstration Toronto - Wednesday, March 15, 2006 - 059 by photopia / HiMY SYeD.

Endorsing Barack Obama will not turn the page on his lifetime of betrayal.   If he decides to go with Obama, it won’t be a personal decison.  It will be a surreptitious effort of the imperial establishment to control Obama for Powell’s beloved plantation puppet masters.  Colin Powell is no longer one of us.  He is an enemy of the black community and if Barack Obama accepts his endorsement, he may become our enemy as well.

How can Barack not accept the endorsement of Colin Powell? It would be tantamount to political suicide for Barack to turn it down. Let’s deal with reality here…Colin Powell for all his flaws is a beloved political figure in America. Turning him down would be akin to a slap in mainstream america’s face. How would that help Barack win the Presidency? We are trying to win here aren’t we?

  2. Dslunlimited,

Colin Powell lied to the Congressional Black Caucus and engineered the overthrow of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the democratically elected leader of a free country that was of no threat to us from a military or economic standpoint. You can ignore that if you wish, but it is a fact.

Second, one of the main reasons for Obama’s ascension is because of his opposition to the Iraq war. He defeated Hillary because she went along with the imperial program. She paid the ultimate price and was defeated.

Obama’s opposition to the establishment consensus and his opposition to the Iraq War can legitmately be questioned if he accepts the endorsement of the blackface minstrel whose reputation allowed him to pull a fast one for the power-structure and convince the world to capitulate to this war.

Wow, SB, say what you really feel!

I think this is about as much an endorsement from Powell as Obama’s going to get.

It allows them both to save face.

  4. He will never live down his UN performance no matter how hard he tries. Too many thousands of fresh graves and more every day. Good call on the Haitian maneuver. One more fine example of U.S. state terror relegated to the bin of MSM complicity/amnesia.

  5. rikyrah

    he won’t endorse.

unless, he admits he’s had a ‘ Come to Jesus’ moment.

but, he and Condi know what lever they’re pulling on November 4th.

  6. Colin Powell engineered the murder of 200,000 fleeing Iraqi troops in the first Gulf War. Mind you, these were almost entirely conscripts who were forced to fight against their will. They were fleeing. They would have surrendered if given the chance. But Powell ordered a 24 hour aerial assault on them, killing 200,000 people. How can anyone respect someone like this? His follow up act, lying to the UN in order to build support for another invasion of Iraq, was nearly as bad. This man is a sociopath and a serial liar. To hell with him.

  7. Powell has already owned up to giving the UN the wrong info.

I’m not a fan, after all being a black Republican is a serious problem, but I wouldn’t feel betrayed if Obama accepted Powell’s endorsement. If he didn’t allow poeple who supported the war in Iraq to endorse him, he wouldn’t have many Democrats in his camp.

  8. This election has brought out the absolute worst in this country. To some McCain and Palin can do no wrong even though the evidence says otherwise. This country, founded over 200 years ago only afforded black Americans the right to vote when Obama was 4 years old (1965) That is paramount in understanding what this campaign is faced with.

FWIW, I’m willing to bet a small amount that Powell won’t publicly endorse anyone. A master at keeping his little personal options open – the perfect military bureaucrat.

If, contrary to my guess, Powell does endorse & it turns out to be BO, I don’t know what BO should do. There’s every ethical & moral reason in the world to repudiate such an endorsement. There may also be some pretty weighty realpolitik reasons not to do that, too. Quite frankly, though, I doubt CP’s endorsement would make much diff on the ground – I can’t think, really, of any sizable voter bloc that would be swayed by it pro or con. Its main effect would be in places like Time mag or the Sunday talk shows.

Skeptical Brother, I am not arguing for Colin Powell in any way, shape or form. Understand that as a black man with Haitian roots I was personally offended by his (Colin’s) behaivor vis-a-vis the Aristide coup! However as a supporter of Barack Obama I believe that it is in the campaigns interest to accept and even promote the possibility that Gen. Powell may endorse his run for office. Look, the ideal situation would be for Barack to turn down the endorsement, and note that Colin has engaged in anti-democratic and even racists policies that have oppressed people of color the world over.

History shows us that it is sometimes required to engage certain elements within African-American leadership in order to move forward with a more progressive agenda. After all Dubois (and others) did interact with communists and Leninist. And in more current times MLK had Jesse Jackson as part of his inner circle. So let’s not be puritanical in our thinking.

The point is that Obama is not Powell and we should not make the same “guilt by association” argument that the MSM has used to link Obama and Rev. Wright or Ayers or any other waco de jour. If Powell endorses Obama he should accept it and can add the caveats regarding his record on Iraq etc… He should not turn it down; unless he wants to lose the presidency!

TLB, it is hard to imagine that a black man had that much power at that time (1989-1991), would’nt he is just a Director of a script of an agenda of Bush 1?

    rikyrah,

Go watch the Freedom of Information Act deposition of the Hip-Hop Hizzoner on

    http://www.freep.com

Hilarious but sad. It was more entertaining than the deposition of his former concubine and former lead aide, Christine Beatty. That one was just depressing…

  13. Cliff,

He was the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and gave the orders for Schwarkoff to wipe out defenseless people. Black, white, green, whatever, the guy is a sociopath.

For those who still can’t grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you’ll “kick their fuckin’ ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in the first place because of affirmative action.

White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you’re “untested.”

White privilege is being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office–since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s–while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals.

White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you.

White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was “Alaska first,” and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you’re black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.

White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do–like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor–and people think you’re being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college–you’re somehow being mean, or even sexist.

White privilege is being able to convince white women who don’t even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a “second look.”

White privilege is being able to fire people who didn’t support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt.

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good churchgoing Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

White privilege is not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a “trick question,” while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O’Reilly means you’re dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced.

White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it a “light” burden.

And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain.

White privilege is, in short, the problem.

Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Hillary supporter, now backs McCain. Her history is very intriguing. She thinks Obama is an “elitist” who does not know how to connect to ordinary people. She is a very rich woman, so there must be another meaning to the word “elitist”. What could the word “elitist” mean, Folks?

Here is the rest of the story.

    THAT WAS CLOSE!!!

    OHHHHH SO CLOSE!!!!

    PRAISE GOD

AKECH, You scared me for a second…🙂

    “YES WE CAN”
    🙂

  18. Cliff

Akech, you knew this was coming🙂

Lady Satan: No man can refuse my charm, I have whit, desire, I don’t want to give you my love, I just want you to have contentment. You do realize how powerful I am, and when I make purchases, they are permanent. I don’t just buy investments, I buy people.

I have over a million within my database of people.

When I buy people they remain happy, because they know I bought their children as well.

When I look at you, you know what I am thinking… I am thinking this a man who would love for his family to have prosperous future.

I’ve studied your people, you guys like Mansions, Hoes, Chronic, Bling-Bling, Bentleys.

    M, H, C, B, B, B

Ahhh, Yes we can provide that for you.

I am going to be frank with you “Do you know that I could buy any man I want?”

Not only am I going to buy you, I, will buy you a world.

Obama: You know it’s funny listening to you. I am not a very religious man, but I am spiritual. At first, a male to give me this offer and now you, a female, with a more, uhhhh, subtle approach to the same offer.

The other funny thing is, you wear peals around your neck, as if you are some type of goddess, or queen, but I see something different. With my eyes, I can see, like how Jesus caused the blind man to see. With my eyes you look like those people from a movie I saw while ago called, “THEY LIVE,” and I’m just wondering when you are going to put your watch up to your mouth and press a button and say “I’VE GOT ONE THAT CAN SEE.”

You hate CHANGE, because CHANGE means that you must, uhhhhh, relinquish your containment of them. So then you, try to manipulate me with your amassed wealth, and supposed contentment, and a bright future for my family.

Then you disappear and the people continue to suffer under the economic conditions of this evil world that that you maintain. You think that if I’m, uhhh, “Ballin Outta Control” from the wealth that you give me, I will be happy. I may be happy in one moment of time, because, I can see my gorgeous wife Michelle looking good and living happy. I can see my daughters living an extravagant lifestyle, after they’ve graduated from College. I could get high all day off of the Chronic that you provide me and try to forget, but I could never forget, I would try then, then, then …

Then a flash of reality will come before me. I will see all the people suffering under the tyranny and oppression, as if they chose to participate, like, taking a number from the counter at the DMV, and waiting on their number to be cursed with the burden of their ancestors by taking the bait from you.

I think I’m going have to take you back to the days when black people had the balls to stand up to you, your policy and wicked ways.

I’m going to have to put your Million Dollars that you’ve offered me, in a “James Worthy Sock,” and smack you over the head and say…

    “I DON’T THINK SO!!!!!!!”

    “HOMEY DON’T PLAY THAT!!!!”

    CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN🙂
