Harold Ford’s gay marriage reversal is a bad omen

Standard

Writing of Harold Ford in the past, I have made snarky references to the fundamentalist end times theology in the book of Revelations about the Antichrist and the Omen trilogy of horror films. I make no apology because the evil that the corporate whore from Tennessee represents cannot be understated by my use of a provocative rhetorical device.

That said, I think if somebody were to check underneath Harold’s fade, I sincerely believe you’d find a 666 birthmark in the back of his head. The way Harold has effortlessly revived his political career in the most cutthroat place imaginable and become a contender for New York Senate seat is, to be frank, fu*#ing scary. He pushed up and outmaneuvered the top dog in New York politics, Chuck Schumer, like a seasoned ward heeler.

The last several months of maneuvering reads like the script from the Omen. To review, the son of Satan is “born” to an influential political family and the minions of the devil eliminate all obstacles and kill off all people that seek to thwart his rise to the presidency and his eventual dominion over the earth.

Yesterday’s nakedly political and deeply disingenuous reversal on Same Sex Marriage is just further evidence that Harold Ford Jr is a congenital liar that will say or do anything to beat Kirsten Gillibrand’s political career to death.

In October of 2006, right in the middle of his fevered Tennessee Senate Race, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled unanimously that gay unions had to be recognized under the state’s constitution. A majority of the court left it up to the legislature to design what shape the recognition would take. After the decision was announced, Harold Ford Jr released the following statement:

I do not support the decision today reached by the New Jersey Supreme Court regarding gay marriage. I oppose gay marriage, and have voted twice in Congress to amend the United States Constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage. This November there’s a referendum on the Tennessee ballot to ban same-sex marriage – I am voting for it.

Harold’s position, as wrong as two left shoes, was unequivocal. Gillibrand’s people have done some good work in poisoning the well against Harold because of his positions on choice and same sex marriage. He finally responded. On the Today Show the demonic spawn said, “My support for fairness and equality existed long before I moved to New York.”

Bull*hit

He continued spinning the lie after being asked if this was a major change. He said, “Maybe in the language.” “…But I’m a believer that benefits should flow to same sex partners and if indeed the fiction of the language, the title, should be changed, much like Chuck Schumer who changed his mind on it and Bill Clinton’s evolved, I’m of the opinion now that nothing is wrong with that.”

The following clip must be seen to be believed. It puts to bed any notion of Harold’s veracity.

The Whore must defeat NY Senator Kirsten Gillibrand because she stands in the way of Harold’s nefarious designs on the seat of ultimate power. Moreover, he is running to put himself into a position to one day become President.

Everything seems to be falling into place in the complicated chess game that is New York identity politics.

Last week, according to the New York Times, Al Sharpton and Ford, “chatted warmly for about 10 minutes. Mr. Sharpton did not seek to discourage Mr. Ford from running, and recommended that he begin to reach out to the state’s black leaders and clergy.”

They end the article by telling us, “Mr. Ford will be the keynote speaker next month at the conference of the state’s Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators.” And that the organization’s leader believes Harold will encounter a “receptive” audience as he debuts before the state’s Black and Latino establishment.

Taken together, these developments are a bad omen indeed.

Oh, so he’s pro-gay marriage now too?! I was just reading this from him on cnn’s website:
“I am pro-choice – have always been since I entered politics almost 15 years ago. My cumulative grade with NARAL during 10 years in Congress was right at 80 percent. Any assertions to the contrary are false.”

And I agree, he’ll never be president, no matter how he sets himself up for it.

    • Franko and Danny,

I wouldn’t be so sure about The Whore becoming President. Look at what he has done in a short space of time. He has created a constituency of bankers and millionaires ready and willing to bankroll a senate bid. Don’t sleep on this muthafu*ka.

The NY Daily News were smart enough to call out this bastard.

Harold Ford’s run for Senate is a publicity stunt. He knows he has zero chances of winning, but needs just the right amount of press attention to sell his upcoming book.

According to Amazon.com the release of ‘More Davids than Goliaths” will be on September 7, 2010. A week before the election. Please don’t be fooled into filling his pockets with cash.

  3. DiscoQueen,

Thanks for your imput, it is great to hear a dissenting opinion. But from where I sit, Harold is in this for the power, not the money. Sure, the book is cynically timed, but this is about regaining his foothold as the black crown prince of American Politics. In Memphis, Harold is treated like royalty–in New York, he’s just another political hack on the make. His TV perch has done much to add to his name recognition and it gets his calls returned. His dual roles as Chair of the Democratic Leadership Council and VP of Bank of America Merrill Lynch help him stay in contact with the cash constituents that bankrolled previous runs and help him develop new ones. He has played this hand well and you’ll see him roll out an impressive campaign. Kirsten Gillibrand, regardless of who is in her corner, is in trouble.

  4. the thing SB,

I’m so happy to see you back posting. but, the gays in NY will be on Harold, and they have a long video library and written library of his anti-gay stances. they no more believe him than the Latinos believe that LOU DOBBS has had a conversion. they’re organized, vocal, and take no prisoners.

the pro-choice groups too, and his lies, which in the era of GOOGLE and YOUTUBE, will be able to uncover..well…

    but, you are right, SB.

    and keep on it.

Harold Ford loves power and money and is willing to sell his soul for both.

I am happy to see that most people in the blogosphere can look past his looks and sweet talk to see him for what he really is: a wannabe Tiger Woods. It’s a shame his wife is so blind.

Their wedding song should have been ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ by Tina Turner.

    • Burroughston Broch,

I am not sure that question is addressed to me but I’ll answer. In light of Hillary’s 60%+ win 4 years ago, I doubt this seat is really in jeopardy, but a protracted battle and the entrance of a serious candidate like Congressman Peter King, could give the Republicans the boost they need to take the seat in what is shaping up to be a Republican year.

The reality, however, is that the political junkie in me wants desperately to see a race between The Whore and Gillibrand and I would love to play a small role in his defeat.

    • I wonder if that’s Ford’s true agenda? He knows that he’ll never be POTUS and hates that Obama took his crown, so Ford could be doing this to stick it to him.

I LOATHE this Harold Ford guy! I can’t imagine how anyone can look at him or listen to him and not see this person for the farce of a shitbag he is. He is so transparently slimy and self-serving.

But more importantly, why is nobody talking about the slick and underhanded move by David Gergen to push his guy Scott Brown with that little dog whistle “…the Kennedy seat…” and of course Mr Brown’s well-rehearsed “…with all due respect it isn’t…” quip.

Does anyone really believe that a man as savvy and as careful as David Gergen would without motive frame a question that “offhandedly” without regard to its reverberative impact-

GERGEN: Are you willing under those circumstances to say, I’m going to be the person, I’m going to sit in Teddy Kennedy’s seat and I’m going to be the person who’s going to block it for another 15 years?

BROWN: Well, with all due respect, it’s not the Kennedys’ seat, and it’s not the Democrats’ seat, it’s the people’s seat.

Yeah, yeah, yeah David Gergen and Scott Brown; We SEE YOU BOTH!!!

I hate Harold Ford as much as the next guy. But hold up, just hold up for just a second. I get the fact that he’s carpetbagging and whatnot, but have you taken a look at Mrs. Gillebrand? She, like Mr. Ford is a corporatist sell out, a warmonger, an has been consistently anti-immigrant. Why is she any better than Harold Ford? (and trust me, her old district is next to mines here in Central/UpState NY, so I know a little bit about her).

  8. NYC

Thank you for speading the truth about Ford, he has sensed a weakness in the New York politico and is looking to exploit.

  9. A New Yorker here who remembers how you labelled HF, Jr. — the Dark Sith in 2008. Sharing your posts with friends who are adamantly against this sleazy slug of a human being. I don’t want him to lose; I want him to be humiliated.

And I agree, Harold is setting himself to run for POTUS. The ego on this empty suit is classic, no? But poor Harold doesn’t realized that, like Palin, he can only fool some of the people some of the time, but he can’t fool all the people all the time.
